In Consider the Lobster, the author is very informative about the Maine Lobster Festival and it is also research based. This isn't a formal style of research such as when he says "for practical purposes, everyone knows what a lobster is." and then he goes on to go into more detail about lobsters.
The footnotes are important in this article because he uses it to clarify and give more information and his opinion such as footnote number 6 where it says "its not for everyone" and in the footnote he uses words such as "in truth," "as I see it," and "my personal experience." He uses these footnotes to also help relate himself to the writing so he can better connect with the audience. He also gives some facts after his sentence says "New Englands waters are so heavily trapped" with foot note 7. He then goes to tell us that "the US industry produces around 80 million pounds of lobster.
When David Wallace is saying consider the lobster he is talking about all the different aspects the lobsters bring to life. They aren't just dinner on our plate but they also bring this community together and families together for this festival which is very important. He seems to shift topics because sometimes its about the pain they may feel and how they should be cooked and the festival but its all about lobster.
