At this moment Layli Long Soldier is referring to an apology between America and the Native Americans when she says “And I was personally really surprised that I hadn’t heard about it before. Part of the reason I hadn’t was because it was so quiet. And there really was not a lot of risk taken in how it was delivered.” This "Congressional Resolution of Apology" occurred in December of 2009 but Layli Long Soldier mentions that she didn't hear about it until the spring. She was surprised that she hadn't heard of it since it was kept so quiet even though it was an apology. She expected that it should've been delivered in a more bold way and more mentioned. It was put with the Defense Appropriations Act and the interviewer even mentions that most people wouldn't look there.
The phrasing that Long Soldier is referring to the phrasing of "the arrival of Europeans opened a new chapter for Native People." This is because the people who wrote this were very careful with how they wrote it as to make sure of what "each phrase may carry." She points out these details of the phrasing because they barely talked about anything that happened such as the genocide and that The arrival opening a new door wasn't actually a good thing although they tried to make it seem as so. They phrased things as "conflicts" although it was much worse than that.
Specificity is important in this podcast because they are discussing the lack of information getting included into the apology so they have to back their information up and be specific to point out what was left out and why this is important to natives. It its important in your writing because you need to be able to back up your information and not make broad assumptions or statements.
The structure of this interview is having the interviewer bring up a topic, ask a couple of broad questions and let Long Soldier answer and bring up other topics pertaining to it as well. It isn't serious and you can hear laughing as if its relaxed. By listening to the interview you can take away that you should be relaxed and ask engaging questions.
